How Cabomar Increased OEE 17% with TrakSYS

Based in Marin, Spain, Cabomar Congelados specializes in the processing, distributing, and exporting of frozen seafood products. Established in 2005, the family-owned company focuses on providing high-quality seafood products to countries worldwide by working with a network of suppliers and adhering to strict quality control processes. With products ranging from fish to shellfish, cephalopods, and other seafood items, Cabomar continues to establish itself as a preeminent player in the Spanish seafood processing industry.

Known for its commitment to quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction, Cabomar has seen its customer base continue to expand. To keep up with the increase in demand and fulfill its mission of operating as efficiently and effectively as possible, the Cabomar team realized it needed to kickstart its digital transformation journey. For guidance and assistance with solution selection, design, and implementation, Cabomar reached out to Parsec Automation, LLC certified partner ASM Soft, who recommended the company utilize TrakSYS.

Cabomar needed to find a solution that could account for different types of processes and multiple routes of manufacturing, and one flexible and agile enough to support its dynamic, constantly evolving factory.

With its first TrakSYS project originating in 2014, Cabomar has since become a trailblazer, setting the example of how companies in its industry can benefit from technologies like MES. In 2020, with the continued support of ASM Soft, the Cabomar team upgraded to TrakSYS 11 to capitalize on the platform's expanded functionality.

In the years since, Cabomar has continued to evolve its deployment, which now has TrakSYS integrated with its existing business systems, including its ERP, and overseeing nearly all of the company's production areas. TrakSYS is currently integrated into Cabomar's pod, squid, and jumbo squid cleaning line, cabinets line, saws line, fried products line, glazing line, mixing line, packaging lines, MAP (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) line, filleting line, fresh product line, prawn line, palletizing line, and automatic weighing vat registration system. With the real-time KPI calculations, labor management capabilities, end-to-end traceability, historical data, and improved utility management the platform has enabled, Cabomar has been able to increase its yield, keep up with customer demand, maintain competitive prices, and increase its bottom line.

Cabomar increased overall equipment effectiveness by 17% and reduced both utility and energy consumption. The team now has real-time production monitoring and established baselines for operational monitoring, along with a significant reduction in data entry time and improved data reliability and accuracy. Cabomar has also achieved complete end-to-end plant traceability and comprehensive data digitization.
