Case Study
How Conservas Albo Modernized Seafood Production with TrakSYS
TrakSYS tracks batch-specific data across 18 cooking rafts, 9 canning lines, 5 sterilizers, and 8 boxing lines.
Employee-specific RFID cards let Albo calculate yield and performance in real time for every worker in the cutting and gutting process.
Standardized quality forms and statistical process control replaced paper-based inspection across Albo's automated lines.
It has been a big step forward for the company's growth in terms of digitalization, and fundamental for the real-time understanding of our production processes. It is a good foundation for continuously analyzing data and helping to make the most rational and justified decisions.
The Company
Conservas Albo has been producing canned seafood since 1869, growing to more than 100 well-known canned seafood products built on a reputation for quality controls and raw material sourcing. Its products are a staple in homes around the world.
Since 2019, teams at Albo's facility in Galicia have worked on strategies to support the company's growing demand. As part of that effort, called Albo 4.0, the team began working with Parsec Automation, LLC certified partner ASM Soft, who recommended implementing TrakSYS to support Albo's digital transformation.
The Challenge
Albo's existing processes relied on manual item registration rather than scanning, and older, less automated equipment made it difficult to capture data or identify inefficiencies. The team needed a solution that could address its current needs while accounting for future goals, all while executing the project during the height of Covid-19, when remote-in capabilities had to substitute for a lack of in-person resources.
The lack of a development environment added risk to ongoing solution creation, and to succeed, roughly half of the factory's processes needed to start alongside TrakSYS go-live, requiring close coordination across the Albo 4.0 project team.
The Solution
Beginning in 2019, the Galicia facility set out to implement TrakSYS for production management, traceability, KPI calculation, labor management, quality management, and historian capabilities. ASM Soft integrated TrakSYS with raw material receiving, the cutting and gutting of tuna and sardines, 18 cooking rafts, manual packing, nine automatic can-packing lines, five sterilizers, eight boxing lines, and the manual processing areas where internal pallet and box movements are tracked.
For thermal processes like cooking and sterilization, TrakSYS records historical data and establishes batch-specific traceability. Using employee-specific RFID cards, ASM Soft also configured TrakSYS to calculate yield and performance in real time for each worker in the tuna cutting and gutting process. For the more automated canning and packing lines, TrakSYS was set up to track accurate downtimes, line-by-line OEE, order management, complete traceability, standardized quality forms, and statistical process control.
The Impact
Albo now has real-time, facility-wide visibility into its production lifecycle, with improved traceability that lets the team closely monitor product movements from raw material receiving through final packing. Error detection has been streamlined, control of operations has improved, and data integrity across the plant is stronger than it was under paper-based tracking.
Quality assurance has also improved alongside overall productivity, giving the Albo team a foundation to keep building on as its digital transformation continues.
