A Fresh Coat: TrakSYS-Powered Production Optimization at Marsan
Paper notes eliminated from the production floor
Increase in productivity
Faster defect detection per control point
I cannot detract from Inycom since the solution implemented has required specific developments in our plant, and we wanted something that was also intuitive and easy to use by any partner. We have achieved this quickly, and we are very satisfied with the result. TrakSYS is something that we recommend to any factory as the time it saves you provides a quick return on investment.
The Company
Since 1951, Marsan has grown from a metal stamping operation into a full-service provider of surface coatings, metallic transformation, component assembly, and delivery logistics. Based in Vigo, Spain, the company serves a roster of automotive clients ranging from Ford to BMW, continuing its mission of offering best-in-class service and products to the automotive industry.
The Challenge
With a thriving customer base and rising demand for its services, the team at Marsan's Vigo plant began searching for ways to streamline and maximize production. The company wanted to build a digitally connected enterprise that could enable full traceability, automate record keeping, integrate with existing information and corporate systems, and improve the return on previous technology investments.
Key challenges included change management, achieving 100% of established digitalization goals, disparate systems and infrastructure, and having no reliable method for gathering real-time data to support informed decision-making.
The Solution
Aware of Marsan's goals, Inycom, a Parsec Automation, LLC certified partner, recommended the team implement TrakSYS. When it came time to deploy the platform, Inycom and the Marsan team opted for an on-premises installation. TrakSYS's native interoperability made for seamless integration with Marsan's existing business systems.
Through the Performance and Production Management aspects of the platform, TrakSYS gives team members real-time coverage and control of production materials and inputs. Line operators can now monitor the plant's two surface treatment lines, home to Marsan's powder painting and cataphoresis painting technology, unifying the data stream between the paint robots and other processes via OPC.
Through their work with TrakSYS, Marsan adopted a human-centric approach to technology, an Industry 5.0 hallmark the team was keenly interested in, knowing that its people would be the ones to create and sustain the production efficiencies it was after. Looking ahead, Marsan plans to extend the implementation to all of its plants worldwide, using the Vigo facility as the template for that rollout.
TrakSYS was key to helping to resolve challenges with data management and systems integration. Working alongside the project team, Inycom utilized the adaptability and versatility of the TrakSYS platform to achieve success in the complex automotive sector, and maximized value for the client.
The Impact
Marsan's TrakSYS implementation eliminated roughly 250,000 paper notes that had previously been used to track production, while automating the monitoring of more than 2,000 control limits and creating over 400 additional control points. The plant increased productivity by 60% and sped up defect detection by 10% per control point.
The system also helped Marsan prevent non-validated materials from entering production, established a detailed correlation between batches and raw material consumption, and significantly reduced waste across the Vigo facility.
