The Company

Messier-Bugatti, a Safran Group company, is the world leader in aircraft landing and braking systems. The company's braking, steering, landing, and monitoring systems are used on more than 25,000 aircraft worldwide, spanning commercial and military applications. In addition to component manufacturing, Messier-Bugatti designs, develops, supports, repairs, and overhauls aircraft taxiing systems, landing gears, wheels, brakes, steering platforms, and monitoring systems, with operations spanning more than three continents.

The Challenge

As Messier-Bugatti's business continued to grow, production capacity became a limiting factor. The team lacked real-time production data, had no way to compare performance across sites, and had no method for identifying production bottlenecks, leaving stakeholders without the operational insight they needed to act.

Looking for a way to solve its production bottlenecks, the team at Messier-Bugatti headquarters in Velizy, France turned to TrakSYS to help optimize production at its facilities around the world.

The Solution

The Messier-Bugatti team wanted a configurable, modular, scalable, web-based platform that was rapidly deployable and easy to maintain. Working alongside Parsec Automation, LLC, the team architected a TrakSYS rollout that checked every box.

Utilizing TrakSYS's interoperability, the platform was tied into 12 CNC machines and control systems. Twelve operator interfaces were placed throughout the facility to enable interaction with the system, from viewing information and reports to entering observations and categorizing events. Key TrakSYS features deployed included Planning and Scheduling, Performance Management, Workflow, SPC, Quality Management, Task Management, E-records, Traceability, Historian, and Single-Instance Multi-Site capability.

The Impact

Within three months of deploying TrakSYS, Messier-Bugatti was able to identify the root causes of its production problems, prioritize them by impact, and measurably improve production capacity. The team improved daily production times by one hour per CNC machine and achieved ROI in less than three months.

Encouraged by the results, Messier-Bugatti expanded its TrakSYS rollout to 10 additional lines, replacing outdated manual time-tracking processes, identifying the leading causes of short stops, creating daily reports for management, tracking serial numbers, and optimally scheduling human and machine resources.
