Our TrakSYS project aimed to create optimum traceability and food safety to eliminate the chance of cross-contamination. To achieve this, we needed to update our existing processes, from paper-based, to electronic. Our operations are complex, and we have variable products for multiple customers. The new TrakSYS-based system has helped us manage these complex operations better while improving product quality, increasing productivity, and reducing costs.
The Company
Founded in 1991, Premier Nutrition is an England-based company owned and operated by AB Agri Ltd, the agriculture group of Associated British Foods plc. Premier Nutrition has become a leading supplier for many producers of livestock feeds and pet foods, committed to delivering wholesome, safe, and effective ingredients for animal foods and supplements.
The Challenge
Ensuring traceability, genealogy, and quality has always been Premier Nutrition's top priority. As customer demand continued to increase, the team realized they needed a unified MOM platform to optimize operations, one that could connect to their current ERP and existing equipment without requiring additional infrastructure.
The company faced a lack of real-time production data, siloed systems, and stringent regulatory requirements that made getting the right data to the right people at the right time difficult.
The Solution
Looking to adopt a robust, flexible, user-friendly solution, Premier Nutrition worked with Parsec Automation, LLC certified partner Cimlogic to implement TrakSYS. To enable real-time traceability and genealogy of raw ingredients from suppliers to finished products, the team designed a rollout that would create audit-ready traceability, monitor filling and weighing, facilitate task management, create electronic batch records, and integrate with existing systems.
Algorithmic Production Scheduling (APS) was also implemented to help teams meet production goals as efficiently as possible. Plant performance, availability of raw materials, and business rules regarding contamination were used to inform the scheduling algorithm, continually reworking production plans to ensure an optimized schedule.
The Impact
With TrakSYS in place, Premier Nutrition facilitated traceability from raw materials to finished goods, increased production capacity, and minimized errors that had previously occurred through manual data entry.
The rollout improved product safety, gave the team user-friendly TrakSYS dashboards, and enabled real-time monitoring of KPIs across the plant, all while updating the company's processes from paper-based to fully electronic.
