Parsec’s 2023 State of Manufacturing Survey: North America

Manufacturers share candid insights on technology adoption, operational hurdles, and strategic priorities, offering a clear view of where the industry stands in 2023.

The State of Manufacturing Survey 2023 compiles insights from over 500 manufacturing professionals across North America, offering a clear benchmark for operational readiness in areas such as digital transformation, labor skills, AI/ML adoption, supply chain resilience, and MES utilization. Although many respondents report confidence in their digital initiatives, a notable percentage still rely heavily on manual processes—revealing a disconnect between perceived progress and true modernization.

Workforce challenges remain a major hurdle. Half of respondents identify lack of skills as the most pressing staffing issue, while 46% cite limited AI/ML knowledge as a barrier to leveraging advanced technologies. MES adoption also shows uneven maturity, with 27% of respondents unfamiliar with MES despite strong satisfaction among organizations that have implemented it.

The findings highlight a significant opportunity for manufacturers to modernize their operations through real-time visibility, automated data collection, and integrated platforms like TrakSYS. By reducing manual effort and centralizing decision-making, manufacturers can move closer to achieving resilient, efficient, and scalable operations.
